Where We Meet
82a Chiltern Street, London W1U 5AQ
In December 2005 Self-Realization Fellowship acquired its own premises for the use of our members and friends in London, England. A former church, with room for a congregation numbering more than 200, it is ideally situated in the heart of the city, in a quiet off-street location and provides excellent facilities for our spiritual home.
Occupying 5,000 square feet, the location also features a social hall, garden and exercise area, and residential accommodation for the use of visiting monastics. Those attending have remarked on how silent it is inside, shielded from the noise of nearby traffic by surrounding buildings. “I walked in and felt embraced, “ as one member put it. Take a look inside: Chapel -- Hall The building is just one block away from the nearest underground station, Baker Street, which sits at the busy interchange of a number of lines in the underground transit system. It is also within a short walking distance from the beautiful Regent’s Park. Property in the city is among the most expensive in the world, and at the time of discovery that the church was being marketed the centre’s property fund had less than one seventh of the total needed to secure it. It presented a tremendous challenge at every level. But thanks to unprecedented spiritual and material support from the members, and many divine blessings, it was possible to find the necessary amount and to overcome seemingly insuperable obstacles in just four months. We are deeply grateful to have such a unique property available for Paramahansa Yogananda’s work in this major European city, and to those whose generosity and unselfish service have made this possible. With effect from the beginning of April 2006, the centre’s regular meetings transferred to the new location, and work has commenced on site to fully adapt and equip it to meet the needs of those attending. It is our prayer that it will become a haven of divine peace for those seeking security in this world of change and challenge. (Click here for more information)
